More Than Words

Hey everybody! The blog is officially under new management, so hopefully it will become more useful than was previously. This Sunday we talked about music and its influence. What does music mean? We also talked about what types of music have positive effects, and which do not. Does the music you listen to ever affect your beliefs? The scriptures read were from Psalm 147:1 and Chronicles 16:9. Music is not the only form of worship. We can praise God through prayer, reading scripture, and many other methods.  We will pick up with this series next Sunday and continue.

Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!

This past Sunday October 25th our church Covenant United Methodist and Wired Student Ministries teamed up. Our current series at church is called Change. We talked about 3 things: the change in us, the change in church, and change the world. So, to end our series our students wanted to feed the homeless. We collected money Wednesday and went out Saturday to get supplies. Immediatley after church Sunday morning we took all the supplies and made approx. 80 lunches. It was amazing to see our church as a whole come together with one purpose and work together. It was simply God. Everyone had their jobs they did. We had people making sandwiches. People organizing bags and people putting treats in bags. We even used left over breakfast treats that were amazing by the way. We also had a few load up their cars with people and food. Our final destination of our service project was downtown Augusta. We met at the Confederate statue across the street from the Imperial Theater. Good location. We probably had around 20 or more people help serve. We handed out probably 65 to 70 lunches we doubled some of the sandwiches up. It was just great to get out of comfort zones and get into serving our city! Incredible day!  We plan on doing more random acts of service to our city. I tell the students we are the hands and feet of God. We need to act like it.

Not good at keeping up!

Sorry I am new to the blog world.  We will go to Wednesdays then Sundays. Wednesday we have been trying to dig a little deeper. We are going to be going through the 3 epistles of Paul. He had basically 2 interns Timothy and Titus. Paul writes to them to teach and share some of his wisdom and leadership he has learned. It is a great start for our young leaders. Speaking of leading I am currently at a leadership conference known as Catalyst in Atlanta. It has been incredible so far to see so many christians from so many different backgrounds worshiping the same God in one place. There are 13,000 of us here so you can imagine how intense it is. God is going to RECHARGE me and bring me back ready to show our students how to be leaders! Anywho Wednesdays have been going very well. We try and have a good time with some silly games and a bible study. The students seem to enjoy it and for me its a chance to get to know them better in a smaller setting. More 1 on 1 time.

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday! We have been rocking our Sunday PLUGGED-IN groups. We have music, games, food, and a study. Thats the typical setup. This past Sunday night we did things different. Some of you have heard we did creative worship. Its an incredible chance to see God through different ways. We had a bunch of stations where students can focus on a task and then turn that into their focus on God. Sorry for the ones who missed out I’m sure it’ll happen again 1 day. We had to split the time up into two 45 minute halves. 45 for creative worship and 45 for worship through song in a corporate (large group) setting. I believe the students responded well to this night. Hopefully it got them excited for the new things to come.

I hope the students continue to do amazing things through the challenges they have been given. Remember to continue doing random acts of kindness!

Pastor out!

Heaven just got a bit bigger

So, there I was as any great story begins. Ha ha thats a joke for some of you. Any who, tonight we had youth, as usual on Sunday night at 6. Tonight was different. Normally we play a song then a game then songs then sermon then leave. Tonight it was amazing and it didn’t have to do with the order of service. God’s presence  was more abundant and just every where. After the band played the set the sermon was delivered. Tonights sermon was the second part to the Come As You Are series it was about invitations. There was a passage read from the bible it was Luke 14:15-24 the parable of the great banquet. If you haven’t read it its a great a story of basically how we should be. We should go out and invite people no matter what they look like to come and meet Jesus and eat at his banquet(be with Him in heaven). It was a challenge for the students to invite people to meet Jesus. God greatly interrupted at the end of the sermon. There is a story of invitation so God said “Invite them!” So we offered up prayer and prayed the sinners prayer for the first time as a youth ministry. AMAZING turn out!!!!! We had 6 students commit their lives to Christ that night. It wasn’t planned, but that’s just how He works right! That’s why I love being a youth pastor. That’s why I do what I do. It could have been one person and I know it still would have had the same if not more of an impact on me. Not only did God work in the student’s hearts He worked in mine. Completely broken. I’m so pumped! I want to go and get more so we can all one day celebrate in heaven. I told the students tonight God isn’t picky and there’s plenty of room in heaven. Let’s fill the place up! I just now need to pray that this fire in the students and in me stays blazing. It’s so hard to keep that going. But I know God has some great things planned with this ministry as He does for all. It was crazy awesome to see students worship like they do. It’s going to be even CRAZIER to see what they do next week. OCTOBER 4th Sunday night we are going to be doing something TOTALLY different. Service will last from 6-8 instead of 730. Be sure to be there and be sure to pack some diapers you may pee yourself from all the excitement!!!!!!  Be there!!!!
